On BorrowMyDoggy, you have two different locations (or three if you have a borrower and owner profile). Usually, it's best to keep these two locations the same, but some members like the option to have different locations. Before we can explain how to change them, we'll just tell you a little about what each one is for.

In brief:

• Your search location(s) control which profiles you see
• Your profile location controls where you appear to other members

Search location

What is it for?

Your borrower or owner search location controls which borrowers or owners you see in your search. You'll only see members who are near your search location. You can also set the distance and direction you'd like for your search area.

This location also affects which new borrowers or owners you'll get sent by email or push notification. You can fine-tune which profiles you get sent on the notification settings page.

How to set it

• On the mobile app:

  It’s not currently possible to change your location on the BorrowMyDoggy app, although we are actively working on this and it will be available soon. If you change your location on the website then the app will automatically use the same location settings.

• On the website:

  1. Choose “Find a borrower” / "Find a dog" from the main menu.
  2. If you’re on a mobile phone or tablet then tap the “Change search” link near the top of the page. If you’re on a computer then skip this step.
  3. Click or tap on the green text in location section of the settings panel.
  4. The location selection screen will be shown. Choose “Search in a new location”.
  5. On the first step you can set the location - it’s usually best to search for a postcode, then choose the best item from the list.
  6. On step two you can choose the search area by setting the maximum distance that you’d like borrowers to be. The map shows the area covered by the current selection. Click the next button when you’re happy with the area.
  7. On step three you can choose to restrict the direction from where you are that you are searching in. The map shows you which areas are currently selected. This function helps you to avoid places that are difficult for you to get to but for most members it’s best to search in all directions.
  8. Step 4 allows you to decide whether to move your profile to the location that you’ve just selected. Generally it’s best to move it, so that you appear to other members in the same place as you are searching, so if you’re not sure then click the green button.
  9. That’s it - click the close button to search with your new location.

Profile location

What is it for?

Your profile location controls where your profile appears to borrowers or owners, so you’ll only show up in their searches if you’re within the search area that they have set.

If you update your profile location then your search location(s) will automatically be updated to match.

How to set it

• On the mobile app:

• On the website:

  1. Click on your profile name in the top right of the screen.
  2. Choose “My profile” from the menu.
  3. Use the “Edit” button to access the profile editing page.
  4. Type in the “Postcode or location” text box - it’s best to use postcode if you can. Use the “Find me” button to update the map so you can check that it’s where you expect.
  5. Scroll down and use the “Save changes” button to save and exit the screen. Note that your search location will now be updated to match.
