BorrowMyDoggy can be used for a range of needs. Whether you need company for your dog, the occasional walk or overnight dog sitting, borrowers in your local area may be able to offer their time. What you may not know is that there are borrowers who may offer care while you are on holiday too.
We speak to our members every day and over time we have become familiar with your commonly asked questions. Below are the questions our members ask most often about holiday care.
Can I use BorrowMyDoggy for holiday care or dog boarding?
Yes! Borrowers in your local area may be able to offer overnight care or even longer.
Why would I choose BorrowMyDoggy over kennels?
The one-to-one care and relationship that is built between a borrower and the dog is unique. Our borrowers love dogs and aren’t trying to make a profit. We believe it’s the next best thing to leaving your pup with family or friends.
Our annual membership for owners is just £48.99 and after that, there are no other fees. Borrowers aren’t charging for their services they simply enjoy spending time with a dog.
Whilst you’re away, you can opt to share your phone number with your borrower so you can have direct contact and updates about your dog while they’re having a pawsome time away too.
All of our Premium borrowers are covered with accident and third-party liability insurance, have access to a 24/7 vet line and have completed safety checks before they can start messaging.
We also have a ‘Doggy Info Sheet’ where you will include emergency contact details, vet details and all the other important information your borrower will need to ensure they can take the best care of your dog and be fully prepared in the unlikely event of an emergency.
I don’t want to leave my dog with a stranger
That’s completely understandable and we wouldn’t want you to do that either! By the time you leave your dog with a borrower, we want you to have built a trusting relationship. That way you can enjoy your holiday in peace, knowing that your dog is having a great time with someone you know and trust.
We recommend that all owners have an initial meeting with a borrower, which we call the ‘Welcome Woof’, so you can introduce your dog to them and get to know one another better. We encourage meeting as many times as you like until everyone feels comfortable before your dog spends some time alone with the borrower.
We’d suggest that your dog spends some solo time with the borrower at least a few times before you set off on your holiday. If your dog is nervous or anxious, this can be a great way to slowly ease them into a new environment.
What if I don’t want my dog to leave my house? They are more comfortable where they are familiar.
That’s completely fine! If you’d prefer a borrower to stay in your house, we recommend building up your trust and relationship with each other to ensure that you’re both comfortable with this arrangement. Heading out for dinner one evening? That’s a great opportunity to invite your borrower over to watch your pooch before providing holiday care.
My holiday is soon, I may not have time to do those things. What should I do?
At the end of the day, it’s entirely up to you and whether your dog is comfortable with a shorter process. We can’t guarantee you will find a borrower for your dates if they’re soon so we would recommend finding kennels in case you are unable to find a borrower in time.
